Obituary

Dave William Walcott was born on March 2, 1963 in New Green, Manchester Jamaica. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Civis and Kathleen Walcott, were proud to welcome Dave, their tenth of eleven children, into this world.

The qualities and traits that made Dave a respectable young man included politeness, neatness, keen observational skills, and remarkable confidence.

He knew what he wanted from life and put in the effort to attain his goals. He stood up well for himself and his pre-teenaged friends just knew that he embodied the leadership skills they sought. As an entrepreneur, he made carts and sold the rides to his friends. He then saved the money until he had enough to purchase what he wanted.

With his siblings, Dave attended the New Green All-Age School. After attending West Indies College, he migrated to New York, where he worked while studying diesel engineering at Apex Technical College and successfully earning his certificate of completion. One of his favorite TV shows at the time was “Big Rigs,” from which he drew inspiration and became a tractor-trailer operator. One day, Mom started crying as she looked from the second floor window of our home in Brooklyn. I asked, “ Mama, why are you crying?” She
responded, “He is so little and driving such a big truck.” She quickly added, “He is careful though!”

That was his life ... “Big Rigs.” He loved what he did with an exceptional passion. He came to Florida in the ‘80s and continued to take pride in his work. Dave and his wife were blessed with two wonderful daughters. They both loved their children very much and made sure they always had quality time together. He was a quiet and amiable man who embraced peacefulness no matter where he was. It was evident that he would be a great father by the way he treated his nieces and nephews, getting them things they needed without
any hesitation. He was sympathetic, kind, and loving to them. His dedication and determination to provide for his family stayed with him even when he was not well. When his wife pleaded with him to rest, he said, “I am the man and my family must not be in need of anything.

Two years ago, Dave humbly gave his life to the Lord. Life on earth is preparing us for a higher calling. Dave was whisked away to a higher calling on October 10, 2019 during his sleep. Those left behind to celebrate the legacy of his life are: wife, Juliet; daughters, Chrishann and Tiana; brothers, Carl, Charlie, and Derrick; sisters, Delphina and Diana Ducott-Walcott; uncle, Ferdie (100 years old); aunt, Gloria Lacey (96 years old); aunt, Ruby Lobban (92 years old); and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and adopted family.
