in Williston, South Carolina, to the late Dennis
Mitchell, Sr., and Willie Mae Mitchell. She attended
Kelly Edward High School before moving to Florida
in 1950. Jarushis, better known as “Ms. Jay,” had a passion
for taking care of others. She retired from the South
Florida State Hospital, where she was employed for
twenty years as a nurse’s aide assistant. She was a
member of Mount Bethel Baptist Church.
Jarushis was a dedicated wife, married to her husband,
Carl E. Thornton, for over forty years. She was a loving
mother to six children and a devoted grandmother and
She leaves behind to cherish the memories and celebrate
her home going: her husband, Carl E. Thornton; her children,
Shebby Fleming, Thomas Williams, Jerrie Loftman, and Wilford
Morris (Cheryl), all of Fort Laurderdale, FL, and Andrew Morris (Dorothy)
of Baltimore, MD. She joins in Heaven her son, Gerald Morris.
She also leaves to cherish: her siblings, Cremel Mitchell (Ethel)
of Fort Lauderdale, FL, Dennis Mitchell, Jr., and Harry Mitchell, Sr.,
of Delray Beach,FL, Pansey Allen (Arthur), Glen Abner and Wyman
Mitchell, all of Williston, SC. She joins in Heaven her five other siblings,
Willie C. Bellinger Mitchell, Terry Mitchell, Johnnie Mae Gillion, Tracy Mitchell,
and Ulysess Mitchell.
She also leaves behind 12 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, a host of
nieces and nephews, and a very special friend, Ms. Liz Logan.
